A pedestrian was this morning killed in an accident along the Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Dead is 70-year-old Hardat Harriram of Old Road Eccles, EBD.
The incident occurred at around 05:20hrs and involved motor jeep PJJ 9372, driven by a 38-year-old resident of Annandale, East Coast Demerara.
Police said the jeep was proceeding south along the western drive lane of the road while the pedestrian was pushing a pedal cycle and walking across the road from west to east.
As the pedestrian approached the eastern carriageway, he stopped at the concrete median where he remained there for a while, holding his pedal cycle, waiting for an opportunity to cross the road.
Police explained that after waiting for some time, the pedestrian proceeded to cross the road but in so doing, he ended up in the path of the jeep.
The front of the jeep collided with the pedestrian, who was flung into the air and landed on the surface of the road, where he received injuries on his body.
The Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned and, on arrival, found the 70-year-old man in an unconscious condition. He was then pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the jeep is currently in custody, assisting with the investigation.
