$4.4M stolen as armed bandits raid Nismes home

An investigation has been launched into an armed robbery which occurred on a resident of Nismes, West Bank Demerara at around 23:50hrs on Monday.

The victim, a Dectector Operator working at Chi Chi Backdam, Upper Mazaruni River, was in the living room watching television when he fell asleep.

When he woke up, the man noticed the armed perpetrators in his house.

One of the suspects told the victim not to move, and to keep quiet as he demanded money. The bandit then ordered him to lie face downwards.

The victim claimed that as he was about to turn his face down, the second suspect whose face was covered with white cloth, placed a jersey on his head, and tied his feet and hands.

The victim told investigators that after constant demands and threats from the bandits, he became fearful for his life and pointed to the location where he kept $4.4M.

After retrieving the money, the suspects made their good escape.

The victim managed to free himself and raised an alarm.

The man had returned from the backdam some two months ago with the cash which he normally keeps at home.

No arrests have been made.
