DSC05153A driver attached to the Office of the President was today remanded to prison when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry for having an unlicensed pistol and ammunition on his possession.

Kennard Gabur of Norton Street Lodge pleaded not guilty to the charge. It is alleged that on September 03 at John Street Brickdam, he had one pistol and four live rounds of 9 mm ammunition on his possession knowing he has no license.

The allegations state that on the day of the incident, the accused was driving motor cycle CG 8213 without a helmet after which he was stopped and searched by ranks from the Guyana Police Force when the gun and ammunition were discovered.

Based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and the fact that no special reasons were raised by the accused for bail to be granted, the prosecutor objected to bail. His request was granted by the Magistrate who remanded the accused until September 18.

When asked by the Magistrate who his employer is, the man related that he is a driver attached to the Office of the President.  [Royan Abrams]
