Speaker tests positive for COVID-19; to preside over Budget Presentation virtually

Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir has been tested positive for COVID-19.

Mr Nadir confirmed that he received his results on Tuesday evening after he was tested on Monday.

With the presentation of the National Emergency Budget 2020 slated for today, the House Speaker said arrangements have been made for him to preside over the proceedings virtually.

Mr Nadir says he is asymptomatic.

He has already submitted to the authorities the names of persons with whom he has been in contact with in the last 72 hours.

The House Speaker and the National Assembly Clerk decided to conduct COVID-19 tests after they were exposed to opposition parliamentarians Chris Jones and Sherod Duncan who had physically attended the opening of the 12th Parliament last week even though they were infected with the virus.
