Republic Bank Teller charged for killing 12 – year – old

DSC05122A teller attached to Republic Bank Linden Branch was today placed on $200,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Eighteen – year – old Joel Lewinsky of 121 Half Mile Wismar Linden pleaded not guilty to the charge. The court was told that on August 24 at Soesdyke Linden Highway, he drove motor car PRR 6455 in a dangerous manner, causing the death of 12 – year – old Johnny Romeo Da Silva.

Lewinsky was represented by Attorney – at – Law Latchmi Rahamat, who made an application for bail, as she noted that her client has no previous nor pending matter in court.

The Attorney further related that the 12 – year – old boy ran out from behind a parked minibus  and into the path of her client’s car and at all times, her client who only received his driver’s license days prior to the incident, was  observing the five ‘Cs’ at all times.

Meanwhile, the prosecution’s case revealed that on the day in question at about 15: 40h, the accused was driving the said motor car proceeding along the Northern side of the Soesdyke Linden Highway at a fast rate.

The prosecutor said the 12 – year – old who was standing at the corner of the road was flung into the air and dragged several feet away from the point of impact.
