Prison break: Another escapee recaptured, 4 now on the run

Shawn Harris – one of the 13 prisoners who escaped from the Lusignan walled area two Sundays ago- has been re-captured in Mocha, East Bank Demerara.
According to the police, Harris was recaptured in the bottom flat of a two story house, while a husband and wife who occupied the upper flat and were present, have been arrested.

Thus far, 11 other fugitives have been apprehended, while one- Clive Forde- was killed yesterday during an exchange of gunfire between himself and police.

Another escapee Kerry Cromwell surrendered to the law enforcement officers at the Brickdam Police Station and is currently back in lawful custody.

Last Saturday night, notorious criminal Stafrei Hopkinson Alexander, who had escaped from the Camp Street Prison on July 9, was recaptured at Topoo, in the northern section of the Region Six village of Albion on the Corentyne Coast in East Berbice. This village is situated to the south of Rose Hall Town.

He was among those who had escaped during the fire which reduced the Camp Street penitentiary to rubble and left prison officer Odinga Wickham dead.

Those still in the run are Paul Goriah, and three of the initial six who had escaped from the July 9 Camp Street fire; Mark Durant Williams, Uree Varswyck, and Cobena Stephens.
