Shockwaves rippled through the close-knitted village of Good Faith Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD) last night when the body of a 75-year-old woman was discovered in a pool of blood lying on the floor in her home.

murderCecelia Madray had been found with a wound to her head allegedly inflicted by her son who is a known drug addict. The 53-year-old man is presently in police custody assisting with the investigations.

INews was told that members of the area’s Community Policing Group (CPG) made the gruesome discovery sometime around 20:10hrs after being contacted by Madray’s neighbours who complained of loud noises and disorder in the now dead woman’s house.

The CPG members arrived at the location and repeatedly began calling for the woman’s son to come outside, but they received no response from him. Upon hearing no answer, CPG members thought something was amiss and they subsequently resorted to breaking down the door of the house to gain access to the building. However, they were not prepared for the gruesome sight which greeted them; Madray’s body was on the bloody floor covered by a mosquito net.

A police source told INews that when the CPG members saw this, they immediately started questioning the woman’s son about the circumstances leading to her death. He told the CPG members that his mother fell from the stairway of their house. But when the CPG members tried to verify his tale, they did not find any trace of blood on or around the stairway to support his explanation and also realised that Madray’s blood stained body was still somewhat fresh.

He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody where he is being grilled by law enforcement officials.

There are reports that the man would usually abuse his mother, both physically and sexually. In one case the matter even ended up reaching the Court, but the woman refused to give evidence out of fear of being attacked by her son.
