Linden pedestrian killed in accident by alleged drunk driver

A Wismar, Linden resident is now dead after a vehicle being driven by an alleged drunk driver on Tuesday evening, struck him down on the Half Mile Public Road, Wismar Linden.

Dead is 38-year-old Sherwin Hermanstien of lot 534 Canvas City, Wismar.

Reports received indicate that at around 22:45hrs last evening Hermanstien was in the process of crossing the road when motor car, PSS 5865-being driven by an Industrial Area, Mckenzie resident- which was proceeding north along the western carriageway of the road struck him down.

As a result of the impact, the pedestrian fell onto the road surface and was in an unconscious state when the driver, of the vehicle involved in the accident, picked him up and rushed him to the Linden Hospital Complex.

Hermanstien was pronounced dead on arrival. A post mortem is expected to be conducted on his body (presently in the Linden Hospital mortuary) on Friday.

Police in a statement said that the driver of the vehicle was apprehended and he was found to be over the legal blood alcohol limit after a breathalyzer test was administered.

Investigations are ongoing.
