Guyanese Selected on Pan American Hockey Elite Team

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana National Women’s Hockey Goalkeeper, Alysa Xavier has been named on the Pan American elite team for 2013.

Alysa presentationShe joins the likes of five players from the world champions Argentina, three each from the USA and Canada, two from Chile and one each from Mexico and Uruguay, representing only player from the English speaking Caribbean to be selected

This also represents the first time that a Guyanese has been selected for the accolade.The Guyanese goalie has won more individual awards for goalkeeping than any other active goalkeeper in the English-speaking Caribbean. Alysa saves a shot from Canada

Through a release, the Guyana Hockey Board sought to thank the Ministry of Sport and the Guyana Olympic Association for their support, in the sport and with athletes.

Every two years, the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) selects an elite team of its top players based on their international performance for the year and the most recent selection is for 2012/2013.
