Farmer arraigned for murder of Leguan youth

Forty-year-old Phillip Jhagroo known as ‘Tanky’ of Good Intent, Leguan Region 3 (Essequibo Island- West Demerara) was on Tuesday arraigned for the murder of 21-year-old Mark Narine when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The farmer was not required to plead to the indictment when the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Police stated that between March 30 and 31, 2019 at School Dam, Richmond Hill, Leguan Island, he murdered Narine.

Police Prosecutor Stacy Gittens told the court that on the day in question the now dead man was on his way home, when he was lashed off his motorcycle by the accused. Jhagroo then reportedly toss Narine in a nearby trench, which was found the following day submerged.

Jhagroo was remanded and will make his next court appearance at the Leguan Magistrates’ Courts on May 30.
