The decomposed body found at Tarla Dam Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara (WCD), has been identified as 45-year-old Andy Williams, who was a construction worker of Lot 136 Zeeburg, WCD.

His body was discovered on June 8 with a black plastic bag over his head – which was submerged in the canal.

INews understands that Williams returned to Guyana after living in Venezuela for over 20 years.

On June 6, Williams left home to go to work, but never returned.

However, after he did not return home on Sunday, relatives launched a search and visited a few places he frequented, but to no avail.

According to a relative, on June 8 when they heard that a body was retrieved from the canal, they had no idea that it was him until Sunday when police arrived at their home with a photograph of him.

A Post-Mortem Examination (PME) done by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh revealed that Williams died due to blunt trauma to the head.
