Businessman’s gun, cash stolen as vehicle broken into on Brickdam

A silver/grey Toyota Premio vehicle, PVV 4583 belonging to a 34-year-old businessman was on Monday last broken into and the man was robbed of his semi-automatic pistol with live rounds and approximately $350,000 in cash while in the vicinity of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) Office on Brickdam Road and Winter Place, Georgetown.

The victim has been identified as Tyrone Hamilton of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.

According to information received, the incident occurred at around 13:30hrs on the day in question.

INews understands that the victim left his home and visited a commercial bank on Robb Street, Georgetown where he conducted a business transaction.

Shortly after, Hamilton visited the NIS and parked his car on the western side of Winter Place before entering the public building.

Upon returning to his motorcar, Hamilton told police that he observed that the left side of his car window was broken and upon closer inspection, realised that the cash and his .32 Taurus Millennium semi-automatic pistol, with a magazine containing eight (8) matching rounds was missing.

The matter was reported to the Brickdam Police Station and several latent prints were lifted from the vehicle.

Investigations are ongoing.
