The Anna Catherina Islamic Complex (ACIC) and The Guyana United Sadr Islamic Anjuman (GUSIA) will host a Special Annual Iftaar/Dinner at the Complex on Saturday June 11, 2016 from 18.00 hrs (6:00 pm). The activity, which has been a part of the organisations’ Ramadan programme for nearly two decades, seeks to share the bounties of this glorious month with friends of the Complex, both Muslims and Non-Muslims.

Members of the government, other political leaders, members of civic society, religious leaders and other prominent members of society are expected to attend, according to a statement from ACIC’s Public Relations Executive Mr Reyaz Hussain.

“Ramadan is the time of the year when Muslims all over the world, more than 1.6 billion, gather to fast, pray and give the poor and needy their due. It is a time when Muslims reflect on Islam and its many beautiful teachings from the book of God, the Quran which was also revealed in this month. Ramadan is also a very good time for the entire humanity to reflect on the contributions Muslims and the values of Islam have made to the lives of all humans. Humanity must also reflect on the common values we share– values of compassion, charity, doing good, looking out for each other etc,” the statement said.

ramadan iftarThe event is an opportunity to share in this wonderful feeling that this month ushers into our lives, with all of our friends and an appreciation for the support extended to them in the past year and to know how much the organizations cherish the friendship and relationship.

ACIC has served as the hub for the International cooperation of Muslims in Guyana, with those overseas since early 2000’s and provides the programs and facilities to allow this cooperation. Sadr Anjuman is the oldest existing Islamic organization in Guyana, incorporated by an Act of Parliament in the 1960’s. It was formed in the 1940’s and provided leadership to the Muslim community over many decades. ACIC is Guyana’s leading Muslim institution and was last year conferred with Guyana’s National Award for its excellent support to the Guyanese community.
