[www.inewsguyana.com] – Former member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Africo Selman has joined the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC), making her debut at the Party’s first major rally in Kitty, Georgetown on Sunday, March 29.

Selman resigned from the opposing Party on February 26 and was rumored to be joining the PPP, citing that she felt rejected and sidelined under the leadership of David Granger.

She told PPP supporters at the Kitty rally that she suffered a number of abuses by members of A Partnership for National Unity, including Chief Whip, Amna Ally.

“I have received the worst forms of emotional, verbal and psychological abuse within the Opposition camp. I believe comrades, that if I did not leave, then I think I may have experienced psychical abuse since abuse occurs in stages,” Selman said.

According to Selman, she wanted to support the Anti Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism [Amendment] Bill but was prevented from doing so.

“I was abused for sending an email to David Granger, providing reasons why the Partnership should support the Anti Money Laundering and Countering the Terrorism Act. I was told that young people are collateral damage when I opposed their decision to pass the students loan provision to attend the University of Guyana,” Selman detailed.

She criticized the leadership of Granger, stating that he is nonchalant when it comes to issues of youth and their education, women and empowerment and Amerindian development.

“We do recall that budgetary allocations were cut by the combined Opposition in the 10th Parliament. Comrades, is that not betrayal by the leadership of A Partnership for National Unity? Is that not destruction of our country?”

Selman had also voted against the allocations which were cut from the budget. The former PNCR member appealed to the youth not to be “deceived by the empty promises of the APNU+AFC,”

She accused of the Opposition Leader of oppressing the views of women, urging Guyanese to “stay as far away from A Partnership for National Unity.”

  3. Let’s see come May 12th. after everything that the PPP/C do to the Guyanese people and they vote them in they deserve everything they get especially the public servants who Luncheon already told them that the government do have any money to give them increases, and the VAT that Donald promise to reduce has not been reduced and the Berbice bridge tool is still high. I am a berbician and if the rest of berbice vote for the PPP/C like before, then they deserve what they get.

  5. The lady seems a born politician and would feel left out of politics had she not teamed up with the PPP/C. Once bitten by the political bug it is difficult to get out. She feels she has a lot to contribute to the political development of the country and is brave enough to go publicly on the PPP/C platform so soon after abandoning the APNU. A woman of courage in the front line, leading for other women to follow.

  6. Ms Selman did the right thing.
There is self pride and honesty.
She chooses the upstanding people in the PPP/C.
