Wanted farmer ducking jail time caught, brother in custody for trying to bribe officers

A Mahaicony farmer who was wanted by police for several weeks was on Monday afternoon arrested. His 36-year-old brother was also detained after he attempted to bribe ranks.

The wanted man has been identified as Bishomit Rajkumar of Champagne, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

On May 12 2017, he failed to return to court after being arraigned and was sentenced in absentia for the act of unlawfully wounding  Asif Alli of Champagne, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

Police, acting on intelligence information, swooped down on him at his residence at around 16:00hrs yesterday.

Shortly after being arrested, Rajkumar’s brother approached ranks and offered them a bribe of $150,000 to have his brother freed. He was also detained and is expected to be arraigned soon. The bribe money was lodged.

Rajkumar is expected to be escorted to the Georgetown Prison to begin a two year sentence for unlawful wounding.
