[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Woodpecker Products badminton Christmas tournament started on Monday at the Queen’s College Badminton Courts.

Twelve (12) games were played, spanning the under13, 15 and 19 categories in the round-robin singles and open tournament.

In the Girls Under-13 round-robin play, Priyanna Ramdhani played unbeaten on the first day, topping Abosaide Cadogan 21-4, 21-9 and Priyanka Shivnauth 21-1, 21-1.

Cadogan rebounded later in the day to win her next two games, defeating Siya Persaud 21-5, 21-7 and Sudarshani Sooknarine 21-4, 21-0.

Persaud then handed Sooknarine her second loss 14-21, 21-14, 21-10, before defeating Shivnauth 21-1, 21-7.

In the Under-19 Girls competition, Priyanna Ramdhani defeated Amanda Daniels 21-4, 21-0, Amanda Daniels defeated Nyckelle Yearwood 21-19, 21-10 and Abosaide Cadogan defeated Nyckelle Yearwood 21-0, 21-2.

Two games were played in the Under-15 Boys Singles with Akili Haynes defeating Ransell Ramsaroop 19-21, 21-17, 21-11, and Tyrese Jeffery beating Ransell Ramsaroop 21-13, 21-17.

The lone match in the Under-19 Boys Singles resulted in a 21-19, 21-14 win for Narayan Ramdhani over Jonathan Mangra. The tournament will continue today from 16:00h.
