A 33-year-old woman was yesterday remanded to prison after she appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with narcotics trafficking.
Andrea Commiller Vigilance pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on August 6, at Evans Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, she had in her possession 120 grams of cannabis (ganja) for the purpose of trafficking.
The defendant’s lawyer told the court that on the day in questioned, a woman who apparently heard the sirens of the Police dropped a bag on the defendant’s step and told her to keep it for her until she returns. According to the lawyer, shortly afterwards the defendant was shocked to see her home surrounded by Police ranks. She later threw the bag through a window and was seen by a Police Constable who was present on the scene.
The defence attorney begged the court for bail for his client claiming the situation was unfortunate. However, his submissions were overruled and Vigilance was remanded. The case will continue on September 5.
