[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 43 – year – old woman was fined $100,000 by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after admitting to attempting smuggle Towa Towa birds out of Guyana.

During her appearance at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday, January 16, Lusan Marie Younge pleaded guilty to the offence which alleged that on January 15 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri East Bank Demerara, she was exporting 27 Towa Towa birds without obtaining a permit or a certificate from the Management Authority.

She was unrepresented and Police Prosecutor Michael Grant presented no facts to the Court.

The Chief Magistrate instructed that if she failed to pay the fine, she will have to serve three months in jail. Younge was also banned from obtaining an importing/exporting licence for the next two years.
