A 55-year-old woman, accused of chopping her neighbour about his body was on Friday last granted bail when she made her first court appearance.

Sharon Allen was brought before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where she denied both of the charges against her.

The first charge alleged that on April 15, 2021, at Guyhoc Park, she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Denzil Sobers. It was further alleged that on the same day, she made use of threatening behaviour toward Sobers.

The defendant’s attorney, Patrice Henry told the court that his client was only acting on her motherly instincts; that is to protect her son.

He explained that on the day in question, Sobers had a misunderstanding with Allen’s son. He added that Sobers then stormed into the woman’s home to attack her son and as such, she intervened.

Meanwhile, the Police Prosecutor stated that on the day of the alleged incident, Allen dealt Sobers several chops with a cutlass. As a result, Sobers was taken to the North East La Penitence Health Centre where he received treatment for his injuries. Allen was later arrested and charged.

Allen was granted $25,000 bail for the unlawful wounding charge and $5000 for her second charge, totalling her bail to $30,000.

The matter was adjourned to June 3, 2021
