[www.inewsguyana.com] – West Side Ballers are the inaugural champs of the West Demerara Guinness Greatest of the Streets tournament which concluded on Saturday evening at the Pouderoyen tarmac.

Playing in hostile territory, West Side Ballers registered a 2-nil win over Pouderoyen Showstoppers to be deemed the first championships of the West Demerara leg of the tournament.

Anthony Harding’s goal in the 19th minute off a one-two play opened the scoring for West Side Ballers.

With the one goal lead West Side Ballers changed their tactics to full blown defence, continually denying every relentless offensive attack of the host team.

A counter attack in the 39th minute from West Side Ballers resulted in a second goal off the boot of Morgan Denny that eventually sealed the deal.

Meanwhile, in the third place playoff Patentia Street Ballers won 3-2 on sudden death kicks after a 1-1 draw with Raiders.

Kelvin Roberts scored for Patentia in the third minute of the game while Dexter Marshall replied almost immediately in the eight as the game finished without another goal being scored.

Guinness Brand Manager, Lee Baptiste was pleased with the tournament and noted that Guinness will be taking the tournament to the East Coast and Berbice in March.
