West Indies Women suffer ODI Whitewash

[www.inewsguyana.com] – West Indies slid to a series whitewash against hosts New Zealand following their 107 run loss in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) at Bert Sutcliffe oval on Wednesday.

Batting First after winning the toss, New Zealand who stumbled to 90 for the loss of four wickets recovered enough to post 221 for 8.

Middle order batter Sarah Mcglashan was bowled by Shaquana Quintyne for 25 while opener Sam Curtis was run out for 24 while 57 came from Rachel Priest.

In the West Indies turn to bat, they were devastated by another of New Zealands youngsters. The newbie, teenager Felicity Leydon-Davis chalked up a five wicket haul to fold the visitors leaving them all out for 114 in 37.2 overs.

The Caribbean side lost opener Quintyne in the fourth over in a shaky start to the 222 run chase. They relinquished further control by losing seven wickets for 35 runs, plummeting from 45 for one to 80 for eight.

Nineteen – year – old Leydon-Davis removed the West Indies top order including Captain Merissa Aguilleira who was trapped LBW for four.

Leydon- Davis finished with five for 18 while Nicola Browne picked up two for 34. West Indies and New Zealand begin a five match T20 series on Saturday.
