Wanted bulletin issued for man who assaulted Trini soca artiste ‘Benjai’

The police have issued a wanted bulletin for Maverick DeAbreu who, they say, is wanted in connection with the recent incident where Trinidadian Soca artiste, Rodney LeBlanc also called Benjai was assaulted outside a popular Main Street nigh club.

DeAbreu, 27, is accused of hitting LaBlanc to his face with a glass bottle, causing him to suffer severe injuries, during an argument moments after the soca artiste wrapped up his concert in Guyana on February 1, 2016.

He is also accused on discharging a loaded firearm at Tiffany and Jamele Hubbard at the Industrial Site, Ruimveldt, Georgetown on April 16, 2017.

It was reported that, on the night the incident occurred, three of six ladies, who were with Benjai, were bracing on a hire car in which DeAbreu was seated and although the driver of the taxi asked them to desist from doing so, they reportedly continued.

It was at this time, that an inebriated Benjai reportedly started to hit the back of the car with a Ciroc bottle he had in his hand.  The driver allegedly came out of his car and Benjai reportedly advanced towards him.

However, after seeing the commotion outside, De Abreu allegedly rushed out of the vehicle and dealt one blow to Benjai’s face with a bottle. The injuries Benjai received required 25 stitches.

He was rushed to a city medical facility, where he was treated; and he subsequently left for his home in Trinidad.

The Police are asking anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of De Abreu to contact the police on telephone numbers 225-6411, 226-1389, 911 or the nearest police station.
