The body of a pensioner from Wakenaam Island was this morning found in the Supenaam Creek on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two.

The victim has been identified as Abdil Ramjan Khan, 69.

Reports are that at around 07:10hrs today, police in the region were called in after passersby observed a body floating in the Supenaam Waterfront Area, in the vicinity of the farmers’ wharf.

The man was clad in a vest and trunks, and blood was seen oozing from his ears.

The victim’s son-in-law told investigators that on Sunday morning, the pensioner had departed Wakenaam Island alone in a wooden boat to head to the Essequibo Coast with the intention of buying engine parts, but never returned.

As a result, the son-in-law went to the Aurora Police Station and made a missing person report.
