A vendor was on Thursday granted bail in the sum of $40,000 by Magistrate Faith McGusty on a possession of narcotics charge.
Twenty-eight-year-old Akeem North pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on July 2, 2019 at Stabroek, Georgetown, he had 22 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
His Attorney told the court that the illicit substance was not found on his client, but rather on the ground. He indicated that his client was not the only person around when the ranks carried out the search.
He continued by requesting bail be granted in a reasonable sum to his client.
Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummel did not object to bail; however, she asked that conditions be applied if bail was granted. As such, bail was granted and the defendant was ordered to lodge his passport and report to the Brickdam Police Station every Monday until the conclusion of the matter.
