[www.inewsguyana.com] – A father of two charged with the unlawful possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, appeared before City Magistrate, Judy Latchman, where he pleaded not guilty to the offense.

It is alleged that on October 31, 2015, 46- year – old Lincoln Johnson of Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara, had in his possession 4.160 KG of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

The Prosecution objected to bail and informed the court that at approximately 16:25 hrs on the day in question, Johnson was an outgoing passenger on a Caribbean Airlines Flight destined for JFK Airport in New York.

As his black suitcase passed through the scanning machine, ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) observed what appeared to be strange darks shapes.

A further search by ranks unearthed the illegal substance in false bottom of the suitcase. After being taken to CID Headquarters, Eve Leary, Johnson was then cautioned, arrested and charged with the offence.

Bail was denied and he is expected to make his next court appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on November 12.
