[www.inewsguyana.com]The conductor of route 48 minibus on Tuesday evening (September 17) met a gruesome demise when the bus he was traveling in collided with a car on the corner of Brickdam and Louisa Row, Georgetown.

The dead man has been identified by hospital officials as Gavin.

Passengers told iNews that the bus was speeding East along Brickdam at about 21:00 hours en-route to Sophia, when it collided with a car (PNN 4475) that was heading South along Brummell Place.

One passenger, Sheldon McKenzie of ‘D’ Field Sophia, who sustained injuries to his shoulder and right foot told iNews that when the bus arrived at the park, the now dead conductor instructed those boarding the bus to sit four in a seat. He said because of the fact that there were many persons waiting to go home with few buses, persons agreed and boarded the bus.

McKenzie, who was seated in the last seat of the bus, said the bus soon after leaving the park began to speed while the music was being played at a load volume. McKenzie said persons asked the driver to slow down but he did not heed their pleas.

He said it was less than a minute after this when he heard the conductor shouting “look the cars”.

“The bus then start to topple like four times before stopping on the conductor side…people start to climb out the window,” he said. Two other passengers, Colleen Cyrus and Monty Semple, also related similar accounts of the incident.

The driver of the minibus is in police custody assisting with investigations; however the driver of the car is believed to have fled the scene. Investigations into the accident are underway.
