According the Police ‘A’ Division Deputy Commander, Calvin Brutus, at approximately 13:00hrs today, police responded to calls made by the Republic Park residents. However, after becoming aware that the police were in the vicinity, the two men fled the abandoned home.

The chase began, and one of the two men was subsequently apprehended in neighbouring Eccles, East Bank Demerara. When this online publication arrived at the scene, the police were seen prowling the area for the second suspect.

INews understands that the man that was arrested by ranks has been charged on many counts of robbery under arms. He was identified as a 19-year-old miner, Godfrey Lynch of Agricola, East Bank Demerara.

Just last month, Lynch skipped his court hearing after being granted bail on a charge of robbing an elderly caretaker, Yvonne Moe of over $13M in goods during an attack at her Republic Park, East Bank Demerara home.

Witnesses provided by the police Prosecutor, Vishnu Hunt convinced the court Lynch was guilty of the offence. Among them was Moe, who recounted the details of the robbery to the court.

The woman had testified that Lynch and an accomplice was seen lurking outside her house. She said that after seeing the strange men, she proceeded to run back into the house but was caught by one of them, who then dragged her into the house. They then proceeded to rob her, and made good their escape.

He was then found guilty by Magistrate Judy Latchman, and sentenced in absentia to 56 months in prison. In today’s incident, Brutus told INews that Lynch’s accomplice, who up to the time of posting this story was still being hunted, was identified as Mark Mosely of Castello Housing Scheme, West La Penitence, Georgetown. Mosely is also said to be involved in a series of criminal activities. The Guyana Police Force, in a statement this afternoon, said the 22 year old is a prime suspect in two recent Gas Station robberies in Georgetown and Eccles.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force also “acknowledge the excellent support it is receiving from members of the public in its crime fighting strategies”.
