[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is rejecting the decision by the APNU+AFC government to have Prime Moses Nagamootoo lead the team on the issue of national unity.

Minister of Governance, Raphael Trotman had announced that Nagamootoo was selected by the government because they believe he is the “best man” for the job, despite his acrimonious relationship with the PPP.

The PPP in a statement on Thursday, September 10, 2015 noted that it will not participate in such talks if Nagamootoo leads the team.

“The PPP wishes to state that if such a move is part and parcel of the so-called “fresh approach” by the APNU+AFC then it is clearly a non-starter and will end up dead in the water.

“Knowing the dim view the PPP holds of Moses Nagamootoo, the APNU+AFC by insisting that he is their ‘best man’ who will head its team must know that that initiative will go nowhere. Thus, by pushing Nagamootoo center-stage it is now pellucidly clear that the Coalition objective is not to have any talks at all but to put the PPP/C on the defensive and to project the Party as refusing to engage in talks with the government. The entire affair therefore smacks of a political gimmick,” the PPP statement noted.

The Opposition believes that the move by the government is a “calculated” one, aimed at boosting the “sagging image of the AFC it is doubtful that such a move will gain any traction and is therefore bound to backfire.”

“Finally, it should not be ruled out that this ill-fated move with Nagamooto in the driving seat is perhaps in furtherance of a pre-electoral commitment made to certain external forces by Mr. Nagamootoo on behalf of the APNU+AFC.

“What is unfolding before us therefore is an attempt by the Coalition to throw dust in the eyes of the Guyanese people and at the same time pushing a commitment to fulfill a self serving pre-electoral promise made to external forces.”

  1. NAGGA IS THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB BECAUSE ANYTHING HE NEGOTIATES AND SIGNS CAN BE THROWN IN A WASTE PAPER BASKET BY APNU. WHEN NAGGA SIGNS A DEAL AND IT IS HONOURED IN THE BREACH YOU WOULDN’T EVEN HEAR A SQUEAK FROM HIM . WHO IN THE PNC WOULDN’T LIKE TO SIGN A DEAL MADE BY THE PAKOO ?

  2. Piece of crap!
WHAT IS THIS SIMPLE AND STRAIGHTFORWARD POSITION ON THE MECHANICS OF GRANGER’S UNITY GOVERNMENT IDEA?
Neither Granger nor Nagamootoo has ever told the people of Guyana what is entailed in a Unity Government, so unless you have access to secret details of how the concept will work, you need to keep your bullshit to yourself. And FYI, I do not write with colleagues nor do I need support from anyone on my expressed opinions.
I repeat: Unity Government favors Bharrat Jagdeo. Deal with it!

  3. sorry but did jagan go on a witch hunt when he was president no they same people said he should not do so and he complied or the whole pnc would have been in jail not in government.

  4. Gary you will be waiting for a very long period of time. Guess what it will never happen.

Sending the Oppossition leader to jail does not signal good international relations for this Defacto government. Sorry to disappoint you but keep dreaming (LOL).

  5. There are those in the PPP/C party who still behave like some little children, because there are some other children who show more maturity. This reminds me of a verse in the Bible that goes like this:“When I was a child,I spake as a child, but when I became a MAN, I put away childish things“.I believe this attitude is one of jealousy, what the Prime Minister has achieved in the Coalition government for the short time that he is there,he would never have achieved in the PPP/C party that he has served for over 50 years.Shame and embarrassment for them all.

  6. The peeps will not be in Government ever again, and with the crimes they and barrat did JAIL is the place for them, the only unity was the type they united with Jenny Wildwest and cart off 500 m,and we all know the rest of crimes,,,

  7. Unity talks with Nagamootoo will end up “dead in the water” – PPP. You want to see how much the Guyanese people love Nagamoottoo. Tell him to take a vote for love at Whim. They will chase the bastard even though he was born there.

  8. The PPP is demonstrating how progressive they are. Thirty years ago the PPP had entered Unity talks with none other than President LFS Burnham. Dr. Jagan saw it necessary to make a deal with the ‘devil.’
Balram Singh Rai, Harry Lall, Ranji Chandisingh, Vincent Teekah, Dr. ‘Joey’ Jagan, Mr.
Mr. Ramjatan, Mr. Nagamottoo -.and others- were they all wrong?
Way to go PPP- give us progress , your style.

  9. Mervin me Lad, grow up. Your true colors have been exposed a while now. You have degenerated into writing a lot of balderdash ever so often. You are now twisting a simple clear and straightforward position. If you have time to waste go do some productive volunteer work in your neck of the woods and stop writing bullshit. You are not even finding traction amongst your former colleagues Gwaan dah side…..

  10. The shoe is on the other foot rohee. Prime Minister Nagamoottoo is the perfect man for the job you pack of cry babies. Uncle David and Uncle Moses are the perfect duo for unity of all of Guyana, but the responsibility must be split so if you Scums mean well then deal with Uncle Moses for he is not spiteful like you all in the PPP.

  11. I agree 1000% with the PPP. This is a non-starter. The PPP led by Jagdeo does not belong in any type of government, even a unity government.

  12. What about the reverse i.e. knowing the view the APNU and AFC have about members of the PPP/C should this be a reason for not holding unity talks. You talk with your adversaries about peace and unity not your friends. The PPP/c is just backward and looking for an excuse. First the hunt to find Guyana treasures is called a witch hunt so the government must stop, thus allowing the PPP kleptos to get away. Then we have the bankrupt can’t run for office because they will steal-what a strike against democracy and the proletariat. An now we are not talking to one of our own because he was a sellout and we have a dim view of him. What $h!t is this. There PPP/C folks just think everyone in the world is dumber than them.
