[www.inewsguyana.com] – The APNU+AFC coalition says it has received credible reports that an underage girl was allowed to vote at the Golden Nursery School in Region 5, West Coast Berbice.

At a press conference on Monday, May 11 APNU+AFC Co Chair, Raphael Trotman identified the young lady as “Miss Arjune” who voted at 522212. He noted that the police are currently investigating the matter.

“The child is known by the entire village to be underage but the apparently she was allowed to cast a ballot…As a lawyer, I tell you if there is one incident of such case, you will find others,” Trotman said.

As such, the coalition has since increased its level of scrutiny in that region. When asked by iNews, Trotman could not give the young lady’s exact age, while pointing out that the information is still being sought.

What is strange however is the fact that the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has reported that no major incident has been reported to them. This specific issue was reported at GECOM’s press conference at 12:15 hrs today.

When asked about this, Trotman said the correct protocol is for the Presiding Officer to make contact with the district officials or with GECOM directly to say what is happening.

Meanwhile, in his update of the other regions, Trotman noted that with the exception of Region 4, the voting process went smoothly in Regions 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
