T&T mom tied up, strangled by intruder

(Trinidad Express) A Couva mother was killed on Monday during a robbery at her home.

Savitri Harrylal, 52, of Cameron Street, Balmain, is believed to have been strangled by an intruder.

Harrylal was found with a cord around her neck, and her hands and feet bound with a plastic bag, police said.

Harrylal’s son, Adrian Harrylal said that he left his mother at home at around 2 p.m. to do errands.

He returned less than three hours later and found a door ajar.

As he walked into the house he saw several louvre glass panes from his mother’s bedroom on a couch in the living room.

He checked for his mother in her bedroom and found her on the floor, with the room ransacked.

Officers of the Couva CID and Homicide Region III responded.

Harrylal was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is expected to be performed on her body at the Forensic Sciences Centre.

Harrylal was employed as a manager at Steal Away Travel Agency in Arima.

The killing took the murder toll to 397.
