[www.inewsguyana.com] – Leader of the Alliance for Change (AFC) Khemraj Ramjattan has described Speaker of the National Assembly and Founding Member of the AFC Raphael Trotman as a vital pillar to the Party, who continues to play a very important role in the AFC.

In response to a question at the Party’s weekly press conference, Ramjattan said, “he is a member of the National Executive and he is very instructive in advising what line we should be taking in many issues of the day.”

He further noted that, “the fact that he is Speaker positions him in a position that he cannot be an activist on the ground and we respect that.”

However, despite this, Trotman continues to attend the Party’s executive meetings and was present at the National Convention in 2012, the AFC Leader explained.

When asked whether it is true that the Speaker had signaled his intent to resign from the party, Ramjattan very hastily dismissed such allegations, vehemently stating that it was untrue.

“This is the first time I’m hearing about this and it is absolutely not true” Ramjattan said. He added that although the Party has experienced a rough time lately, it remains very strong with high morals.

On the other hand, the AFC leader claims its membership has increased dramatically since the last Regional and General Elections in 2011. He told reporters that the party received 1,600 new applicants since its national convention last year, bringing the overall membership to approximately 10,000 persons.
