Three gold miners rescued

Commissioner [ag] of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) Rickford Vieira has confirmed that three gold miners were rescued on Tuesday evening, after gone missing for several days.

During a telephone interview with iNews, Mr. Vieira said that the men were found in a weakened state and thus far, only two of them were able to make it out of the jungle to Port Kaituma last night.

According to Mr. Vieira, the GGMC team is in the process of transporting food and water to the remaining miner, Earl Fletchman, who is severely dehydrated.

The Commissioner explained that the men went into the jungle on Friday and suspicions arose when no one heard from them. The Commissioner verified that it is three miners who were rescued and not four, which is being suggested by other media reports.
