Thomas victorious in first 2015 cross country

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Distance star Cleveland Thomas easily claimed the first Cross Country of 2015 when the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) held the event in Linden on Sunday, February 08.

Thomas crossed the finish by himself to stop the clock at 19:17.16s in the 6km race, topping Nathaniel Giddings who finished second in 19:27.54s and Kevin Bayley who clocked 19:30.56s for third.

In the women’s 4k cross country, top distance athlete Alika Morgan ruled the roost, winning the event in 18:42.5s to put on a dominant show.

Three times Carifta gold medalist, Cassey George finished second in 19:24.4s while Andrea Foster was third in 19:35.2s.

In the junior male category and 4k race, Matthew McKenzie outlasted his brother Carl to win the event in 16:59.3s while Carl clocked 17:36.6s for the second position.

In the female category of the junior race, young and talented Claudrice McKoy won the event in 17:18.83s while Mariah McKenzie clocked 18:17.26s for second as both females registered faster times than the open women. Both girls also happen to be from the Running Brave Athletics Club.

The AAG is expected to host their second developmental meet on Sunday, February 15 at a venue yet to be announced.
