Teens on motorcycle struck by unregistered bus

Police in Berbice, Region Six, are on the hunt for the driver of an unregistered minibus who hit two teenager on a motorcycle.

Maroldo Durant Marvin, 18, and pillion rider, 14-year-old Tony Crandon, both of lot 35-36 North Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice were on motorcycle CE 9855 around 22:00 hours last night on Main Road, New Amsterdam, when the accident occurred. The mini bus was silver with trade plate MP#1 (Owner, driver’s name and address not yet ascertained)

Investigations revealed that the bus with trade plate MP#1 was proceeding east along Pitt Street New Amsterdam Berbice at a fast rate of speed and turned north onto Main Road without stopping and the right side front of the vehicle collided into the left portion of the motorcycle, which was proceeding north along the western drive lane on Main Road at a fast rate of speed.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist and the pillion rider were thrown off of the motorcycle and landed onto the road surface where they received injuries about their bodies.

They were picked up in a conscious condition by public-spirited citizens and placed in the said minibus, which took them to New Amsterdam Public Hospital for medical attention. However, the driver drove away afterwards.

The two teenagers were seen and examined by the doctor on duty who admitted them for observation in the Accident and Emergancy Department suffering from cuts and brusies about their bodies.

Checks were later made to locate motor vehicle MP#1 which was found parked in a yard at Bristol Street, East Canje Berbice.

The vehicle was seen with damages consistent with a collision. Several efforts were made to locate the owner and driver of the said vehicle but same has proven futile.
