Teen sets home on fire after row with grandmother


Police are on the hunt for a 17-year-old lad who reportedly set fire to his grandmother’s dwelling place at No. 60 Village, Corentyne Berbice on Thursday.

The teenager has been identified as Kuma Persaud.

Police have said that on the day in question, at about 19:45h, the suspect lit a kerosene stove and placed it under a bed following a misunderstanding with his 50-year-old grandmother, who shortly after had left the house.

Within minutes, persons in the area were alerted to the fire, but by the time the tenders arrived, the house with all its content was destroyed. At the time of the fire, no one was at home.

When the Police arrived on the scene, an investigation was launched.
