Taxi Driver remanded for Marijuana possession

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 38 – year – old Taxi Driver was today remanded to prison by Magistrate Judy Latchman on a drug trafficking charge.

Phillip Lovell of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on September 25 at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, he had in his possession 2.272 kilogrammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor, Vishnu Hunt did not present the Prosecution’s facts in Court; however, he opposed bail on the basis that the defendant did not give the Court any special reason as why he should be granted bail.

He was remanded to prison and the case was put off to September 29 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
