Taxi Driver allegedly caught with gun in crotch remanded to prison

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 27 – year – old Taxi Driver of Dennis Street, Sophia was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the unlawful possession of a firearm.

Samuel Adams pleaded not guilty to the offence which alleged that on December 29 at Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he had in his possession one 9mm pistol, when he was not a the holder of a firearm license.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question the police acted on information and visited a house in North Ruimveldt Exit Point; upon their arrival, they saw two vehicles which were parked on the public road in front of the residence.

Ranks approached the accused and conducted a search on his person and found the weapon in his pants crotch.

However, this was disputed by the Defence, which stated that the weapon was found in a vehicle with Adams and several others. Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to Magistrate Fabayo Azore for January 07, 2015.
