[www.inewsguyana.com] – Government Chief Whip, Gail Teixeira is of the view that the recommendations which the combined Opposition put forward to the 2014 National Budget has no vision.

Teixeira opined that A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC) are still “trapped in the 1980s”.

During her contribution to the ongoing budget debate in the National Assembly on Monday night (April 07), the Chief Whip told the House that the debate has been between the “small world view versus the big world view”.

She accused the Opposition of having a “tunnel vision” for Guyana.

“The Opposition cannot ignore that life has changed in Guyana…we still have poverty but it has been reduced and will continue to be reduced under the PPP/C government,” Teixeira said.

The Chief Whip, who is also Presidential Advisor on Governance, accused the opposition political parties of refusing to cooperate with the government.

“All this talk about a Partnership but it’s all a bunch of fluff, because you don’t come to us, you don’t sit with us and talk about partnership for the betterment of our people.”

As it relates to the passage of the budget, Teixeira warned the Opposition that they will be judged by the people of Guyana.

“The nation will Judge…So the public is waiting for you the Opposition that you will pass this Budget. The onus is on the members of the other side… whatever you do when it comes to the estimates is at your peril. The men, women and children who will benefit from this Budget are watching you, they will judge you.”
