Suspect arrested after robbing Linden couple of over $3.4M

A 30-year-old man is in police custody as the prime suspect in the armed robbery committed on a 49-year-old businesswoman and her 40-year-old husband of Mabura, Linden.

The robbery occurred on Tuesday at around 23:00hrs as they couple arrived home.

Investigations revealed that the couple conducted some transactions throughout the day and when they arrived home, they were confronted by the two bandits, one of whom was armed with a gun.

The armed suspect pointed a firearm at the businesswoman and demanded that she hand over her belongings.

During the process, several shots were fired in the air.

Fearful for her life, the woman handed over a bag containing $3.4M, a quantity of raw gold valued $800,000, and a wedding band valued $80,000.

The bandits then made good their escape on a black motorcycle.

Ranks, acting on information received, went to an area where they confronted a suspect who discharged several rounds in the direction of the lawmen as he tried to escape.

However, he was apprehended and a search conducted on him unearthed a bag containing over $2.3M, a .38 revolver with five live rounds, among other items.

Police are looking for the other suspect.

The Guyana Police Force saud the motorcycle used in the crime was a stolen vehicle. In fact, it was the vehicle which was taken from a 30-year-old resident of Buck Hall, Wismar Squatting Area.
