Suddie Teacher slapped with fraud charge

A twenty-one-year-old Suddie Primary School teacher, Rajesh Singh, was on Tuesday granted bail for obtaining money by false pretense.

bailSingh appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrates Court.

It is alleged that on December 16, 2015 at Pomona Housing Scheme with intent to defraud, he obtained from Baiwattie Persaud the sum of $270,000 cash by falsely pretending that Yovindra Persaud and Nandram Persaud stole his gold chain and band valued $270,000 knowing the same to be false. 

He was represented by Attorney Latchmin Dindyal, who told the court that his client is a teacher by profession and has a permanent address at Perseverance Village. 

In his bail application the lawyer informed the court that Singh lives with his parents at Perseverance Village.

Prosecutor Hemraj Ramsewack objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the offense. Bail was nonetheless granted in the sum of $60,000. The case will continue on February 18.
