Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo, earlier today, said he will continue to push for government to reverse its decision to close the Wales sugar estate, even if it means resorting to protest actions with the bereaved sugar workers and their families.

He pointed out that government ignored the recommendations made in the Guyana Sugar Corporation Commission of Inquiry (COI) report by moving ahead with the closure of the Wales Sugar Estate.

According to the COI Report, two commissioners had suggested the closure of the GuySuCo estates. However, the eight other commissioners had advised against it, noting that it would result in dire consequences for the sugar workers particularly at this time during the economic crisis in the country.

On this note, Jagdeo said he will continue push for government to reverse its decision and even if it means resorting to protest actions with the bereaved sugar workers and their families.

Government on Monday confirmed reports that it will be shutting down the Wales Sugar Estate, insisting that it is in the best interest of Guyana.

  2. This government doesn’t care for anything. Poor sugar workers families have no hope. APNU will not reverse the decision….mainly East Indian people will lose their job and livelihood by this move.

  3. This is horrible. In less than 8 months Guyana is experiencing economic crisis. Since the inception of this Defacto administration Guyana has been sliding deeper into economic crisis. There is no hope with this Defacto “CRAPNU” administration. Fellow Guyanese, we need to unite now. Come out in large numbers and support this protest. We must also come out in large numbers for the 2020 election that way even if they rigged they won’t win. We definitely need the PPP/C back in office. It is the only political party that can move this country forward. Let’s stop this doom and gloom CRAPNU now.

  7. Take them to the Street Bharat! The Guyanese people across the world is now coming back to your side after a brief experience with the PNC regime….New york city egg Naga the other day shows the false promises that the PNC gave is slowly coming to light. Harmon is the next Hamilton Green! These PNC ministers has ZERO economic skills. Instead of signing the resources to its own people for future development, job creation and economic boost. Trotman is busy singing all to the Chinese and the ABC countries….what good does this have for our future Guyanese Generation? NONE! Lets face the facts: All the educated people will be grated VISA to the USA or ENGLAND….and the dunces will remain behind…PNC will rig elections for the next 30 years ….Guyana will be worst than Zimbabwe to live @ the rate the PNC regime is running at. So put all aside and look at the facts, the dictators main focus is to keep the PPP under investigation, full their pockets, destroy the economy and leave….by then Hermon, Granger, Moses and Ramjattan will be seniors moving to the USA enjoying life leaving the poor up coming generation to be in poverty.
