Police in ‘D’ Division are still trying to locate 43-year-old Rudolph Williams of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, who allegedly drowned his reputed wife in a canal several villages away on Wednesday.
The body of 41-year-old Bibi Zabida Khan called “Theresa” was found in Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, on Thursday evening but was identified by two of her children the following day.
According to reports, the couple, who seemed to be having domestic problems, were seen at an abandoned house in Zeelugt, where persons claimed they heard Williams beating his wife. The man is then alleged to have taken Khan to the nearby trench, where he drowned her.
INews understands that when neighbours went to rescue the woman, the man had already committed the act and escaped to the other side of the canal.
The woman’s mother told INews that while she is aware that the couple were experiencing some problems, they did not expect things to end this way.
