Squires, Burnett lead their teams to Trifecta final

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Jason Squires dropped a game high 37 points to lead his Pepsi Sonics team past the Bounty Colts on Sunday evening at the Burnham Hard Courts with a 70-66 win to book a place in the finals of the tournament.

Sonics forced a number of turnovers that resulted in fast break points while playing a faced game that Colts could not keep up with.

After Squires offensive display Trevor Smith was the next best scorer with 14 points while Earl O’Neal had 10 in the win.

Colts, despite distributing the ball evenly was unable to adapt to the face paced game as Nikkoloi Smith was the leading scorer on the team with 18 points.

Sheldon Thomas had 14 points while Rayon Cummings 11 points and Dave Causway 10 points were the other scorers in the loss.

In the second semifinal, Travis Burnett was slicing and dicing his way to the rim to score a game high 34 points to help the Pacesetters score a 81-50 win over the Republic Bank Nets.

The Nets seemed clueless on the defensive end and watch as Burnett continuously found his way to the rim. Joslyn Crawford also had 12 points to help the Pacesetters.

Drumson McCully was the only player that reached double digits in the scoring column for the Nets with 18 points.

The final will be contested next weekend at the Burnham hard Court.
