The minibus driver, who in July last was taken before the Leonora Magistrate’s Court after he verbally abused a female passenger who requested that he drove slower, was on Tuesday fined $150,000 for the offences against him.

David Lewis, 48, of Tuschen, East Bank Demerara, who is the driver of minibus BSS 5193 was slapped with charges of misconduct, speeding and for having an overloaded minibus.

Magistrate Roschelle Liverpool whom he appeared before cautioned Lewis to seek other means of employment, one that would not allow him to provide public service.

Following her caution, Lewis was handed the fine. Failure to pay same will result in two weeks imprisonment.

INews previously reported that the passenger, a nurse-identified as Jeneal Lewis- claimed that the driver was driving at a speed of 140mph, which frightened her.

As such, she said that she requested that Lewis slow down.

However, this reportedly angered the man, who began to boast of having some 23 years of driving experience without being involved in an accident.

He further allegedly told the young nurse that she can report the matter as he is not afraid of the Police.

At that point, the young lady requested that he stop the bus as she intended to discontinue her journey with him.

The nurse, in her complaint, said that it was then that Lewis told her “you are a very stupid girl. Same thing you frighten will kill you.”

Following the experience, the passenger made a social media post on Facebook where she not only pin-pointed the driver, but also his minibus.

This reportedly angered the driver who allegedly insulted the woman further on social media.

The matter was then reported to the police.
