[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Ministry of Education commissioned the ‘brand new’ East Street Nursery School which is expected to accommodate 152 pupils.

In a very simple ceremony attended by parents, teachers and ministry officials, the commissioning ceremony was undertaken with a rich mix of cultural items on Monday October 28.

While delivering the keynote address Education Minister Priya Manickchand

emphasized that in order to do well, the proper foundations must be made during the formative learning years of which nursery education plays a pivotal role.

The Minister spoke of how Guyana continues to make progressive strides with an education sector that is rapidly improving. “This education sector is at the highest point it has ever been” the Minister told the gathering, adding that “this education sector is poised so that your children can be the best they can be.”

She said while schools require good and proper buildings, and while the government stands resolutely committed to providing durable modern infrastructure for schools, a good school requires a working partnership of teachers, parents, pupils and the community at large.

“A good school requires a good physical infrastructure, a good headmistress who is professional and an astute manager, as well as teachers who are committed to using their training to ensure they get the very best from the students for whom they are responsible,” the Minister said. She underscored that teachers must continue to develop themselves.
