Sexagenarian charged with stealing motor van, gold chain

A businessman was on Friday morning charged with stealing a motor van and a gold chain when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

66-year-old, Leslie Chand of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown denied that he stole same when the charges were read to him by the Magistrate Leron Daly.

The first charge alleged that on August 16, at East La Penitence, Georgetown stole he one 16 pennyweights gold chain valued $160,000 belonging to Terrence Green.

It is also alleged that on the same day at the same location, he stole on motor van valued $2.4M property of Layne Bailey.

The Court heard that Chand reportedly sold the said vehicle mentioned in the charge to Bailey after which he allegedly stole it and resold it to another.

However, his attorney told the Court that his client is vehemently denying the allegations being made against him.

He was granted bail on both charges to the tune of $380,000 and is expected to return to Court on October 21, 2017.
