Security Guard, accomplice guilty of carjacking; sentenced to 36 months jail

Prison[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two men were today sentenced to 36 months imprisonment each by Magistrate Ann McLennan for stealing a Mazda Axela motor car.

Security Guard, Mortimer Chand also called ‘Yankee’ made his appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on June 16 last and pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on June 11 at John Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, that he stole one Toyota Mazda motorcar PPP 5782 valued $2.7 M, property of Ivylaw Allicock.

Additionally, 23 – year – old Kirtland Scott also known as ‘Cook Up’, a hire-car driver of Friendship, East Coast Demerara, also made his appearance before the Chief Magistrate on June 24, charged with the same offence.

Both matters were transferred before Magistrate Ann McLennan for trial. Police Corporal Bharat Mangru, prosecuting, told the Court that the victim had parked his car and had retired to bed when he discovered his car missing the following morning.

Investigations were carried out, and after Scott was arrested, he admitted tto he offence in a confession statement.

Acting on information, ranks went to Buxton, East Coast of Demerara and managed to recover the car and further investigations into the incident led to the arrest of two other persons, including Chand.

The men were unrepresented at the trial and were found guilty.

  1. here we go again,,,cookup n yankee get slap on de wrist…the law makers are so dumb….dont they know tax payers will pay to keep these in jail for life since these kind wont work wont sweat for a living..security guard? what security guard he is? he is a teef..teefin is their full time job..
