Trevor Hopkinson, 29, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on August 5, 2016, at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he had in his possession 47.2 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

In a bail application, defence Attorney Ronald Daniels told the court that his client was at a shop in the area when the Police approached him and four other men and searched them for drugs. According to the lawyer, nothing was found on his client, but the Policemen began searching the immediate surroundings where they found the illegal substance.

The lawyer told the court that the illegal substance could have belonged to anyone of the four men but instead his client was the only one charged.

Hopkinson was released on G$50,000 and will return on September 14.
