A drinking session between two friends ended on a sour note last week when one man stabbed the other to his neck during an argument over a female love interest.

crime fightBoth men who hail from Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD) are fishermen by trade and were said to be consuming alcoholic beverages at a local ‘drinking spot’ when the incident occurred.

“The two men are friends and were drinking when they started talking about women. When one particular name came up the two started arguing and fighting over her. So one of the men stabbed the other one by his neck and then he went and hide,” said a source.

INews understands that the injured fisherman was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) immediately for medical attention while his assailant went into hiding.

The man who was hospitalised since the incident took place has been discharged from the GPHC and is said to be having a “speedy recovery”.

Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator was apprehended two days ago and is expected to face the Courts tomorrow for his alleged crime.

According to a source, although the accused was ‘dodging the police’ for a while now, he returned to the Stelling near the Mahaicony Police Station to continue fishing and was caught by law enforcement officers shortly after.
