Row over theft of sanitary napkins lands mother of 2 in court

[] – A 45 – year-old woman, who slashed another woman across her face with a beer bottle, causing her serious injuries, pleaded guilty to the offense before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan.

The court heard on November 01, 2015 in Georgetown, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable, Maridoa Roach unlawfully and maliciously wounded Natasha Pier.

The mother of two pleaded guilty with an explanation. The Prosecution revealed that the incident stemmed from an accusation made by the virtual complainant accused Roach of stealing her Sanitary Napkins.

An argument ensued between the two, which led to Roach pushing Pier to the ground, picked up a Stag Beer bottle slash her to the right side of her face. The Prosecution further explained that the victim suffered major injuries to the face and that she is yet to receive further facial surgery and evaluation.

However, when given a chance to say something, Roach explained that Pier first approached her while she was in the company of friends having a few drinks. She claimed that the complainant slapped her after accusing her of stealing.

According to Roach, as a result, she pushed Pier which caused her to fall and injure herself on the beer bottle. In the end, the Chief Magistrate fined Roach $80,000 and failure to pay the fine will result in three months imprisonment.
